7 easy steps for a meditation practice

Updated: Apr 5, 2020

There's never been a better time to stop moving and go within.

If you are new to meditation, or it has been a while since you have gotten quiet, here's how you can get started:

  1. Sit down in a quiet spot.

  2. Choose some soothing meditation music. I like "Zen Life Relax" on YouTube.

  3. Focus on your breathing. Breathe in through your nose for a count of 3 (1-2-3). Hold that breath for a count of 3. Gently release the breath from your mouth for a count of 3 (1-2-3).

  4. If your head is busy with to-do lists, that's okay. Just observe the thoughts moving through your head like clouds. And return to your breathing 1-2-3.

  5. When you are feeling more settled, on the in-breath have the thought that "I joyously accept healing". Use words that have meaning for you.

  6. As you breathe out, think "I release all fear, anxiety, worry, anger and everything that keeps me from being the best version of myself". Use your own words.

  7. When you are settled with those thoughts of self-love, now direct your attention to everyone else on the planet. Every soul, every being, every consciousness. On the in-breath think "I joyously accept healing energy". On the out-breath think "I joyously share this healing energy with everyone on the planet". And feel everyone receiving love and light.

It's so important that we pause, breathe and take a few moments to think about others and our collective. It snaps us out our ongoing fear thoughts and helps us find a wee bit of peace in these turbulent times.

Namaste all.
